SAN DIEGO (Press Release) –Soille Hebrew Day School will host Gary Torgow in San Diego at 5 p.m., Sunday, June 4, at the New Children’s Museum, 200 WEst Island Avenue, to discuss with community leaders ‘Envisioning a Sustainable San Diego Jewish Community.’ This session will be chaired by Selwyn Isakow.
Torgow is the international Chairman of ‘Mosaic United’ with the purpose of forging a thriving Jewish People and State of Israel that illuminate the world. Initial funding of $50M has launched this effort. To build a robust and powerful ecosystem of high quality Jewish experiences, Mosaic United fosters easy connection points for all Jewish people to high quality, transformative experiences shaped by robust and compelling Jewish content. Torgow will lead a discussion on how we can make San Diego a showcase city for these achievements.
He lives in Detroit where he is known to be a visionary leader, able to bring together the human and financial resources to achieve important goals. His passion for Jewish wisdom and broad leadership experiences within and beyond the Jewish world, expresses big tent encompassing solutions for the challenge of achieving robust continuity.
Torgow is the Chairman of Chemical Financial Corporation, the holding company for Chemical Bank which is the largest bank headquartered in Michigan. Chemical Bank recently merged with Talmer Bank, where Torgow served as Founder and Chairman. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Sterling Group, a Michigan-based real estate, development and investment company, which has acquired, developed and operated a number of important landmark properties in southeastern Michigan.
Torgow currently serves on the Board of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He is also on the Executive Board member of Business Leaders of Michigan and is a Trustee and Board member of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan. He chairs the largest NAACP dinner in the United States, and sits on the Foundation Boards of Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital. Also, Torgow is a Trustee on the national Board of Touro College, member of the Executive Board of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, and President of Detroit’s largest Jewish Day School, the Yeshiva Beth Yehudah. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University and Wayne State University School of Law and is a member in good standing of the Michigan Bar Association. He is married with five children.
