In the Beetlejuice World, Death Can Be Lots of Fun

What can I say about the show that is currently at the Civic Theatre?  I never knew death could be so fun!  The show was a high-energy ball of laughs that never stopped moving.  From the moment the curtains opened the crowd was there for it.  I’ve never heard such a roar to the opening lines before.   [Sandi Masori]

‘Yidishe Gauchos’ To Ride Again Sept. 9

If you haven’t seen something before, it is new to you, no matter how old it is. That’s the thinking behind Yiddishland scheduling a Sept. 9 showing and discussion by Mark Freeman of his 1989 half-hour-long documentary, The Yidishe Gauchos, at a private residence on Mt. Soledad. Sci-Fi Film Imagines a TV Set Receiving Broadcasts from the Future

Lola is a science fiction movie the likes of which I never have seen before, but I was fascinated by every minute of it. Most of it is shot in black and white by a hand-held camera.  The story is augmented by documentary footage, some real, some intentionally altered to accommodate what supposedly happens when the timeline of events is disrupted. Rocking, Cheering, and Emoting with TINA

If you go by the Civic Theater around 9:30 pm on the next four nights, you may notice people coming out with big smiles on their faces, a beat in their step and a song on their lips.  Such is the end of the emotional journey audience members were taken on at the Broadway San Diego performance of TINA.  The rockumentary tells of the life and rise to fame of the legendary Tina Turner, who sadly passed just last May.  [Sandi Masori]

Comic-Con 2023 Panels Indicate Bleak Entertainment Future

With writers and actors on strike and prohibited by SAG/AFTRA and WGA from promoting upcoming productions, this year’s Comic-Con was without many  people who normally would have participated on panels.  What was left at times seemed slapdash and makeshift, leaving most attendees wanting more, a harbinger of the content-cold year that the strikes will mean for fans around the world. Should You See ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ at PowPac? It’s No Mystery

By Eva Trieger POWAY, California — Thank you PowPac Theatre for bringing us Witness for the Prosecution, the edgy murder mystery penned in 1925 by Dame Agatha Christie.
