Students Petition Newsom to Veto ‘Ethnic Studies’ Requirement

One hundred and seventy California high school students and parents on Monday urged Governor Gavin Newsom to veto AB 101, a recently passed bill that would make ethnic studies courses a graduation requirement, citing “[t]his bill will sanction the hounding of Zionist students in high schools across the state and encourage similar behavior across the nation.” The California legislature voted two weeks ago to advance AB 101. The bill now heads to Newsom, who has until Oct. 10 to act. [Club Z News Release}{{

X-Troop: The Jewish-British Secret Weapon of World War II

A new cemetery headstone was placed in the Manchester, U.K. Jewish Cemetery, September 2, 2021.Unveilings at gravesites of new memorial stones are not unusual.  This stone was different.  There was no formal unveiling. The memorial stone was placed in the cemetery by strangers who had nothing to do with the deceased nor had ever known him.  They were separated by great distances and many years from the events of his life and death. But… then again, they were not. [Jerry Klinger]

Kitchens for Good Gains New Quarters, $100,000 Matching Fund Offer

You know when you learn about something and it’s just too good to keep it to yourself?  That feeling of wanting to shout it from the rooftops or paste a banner advertising it on the side of a city bus? Yeah, that level of excitement. I first experienced the miracle that is Kitchens for Good in 2019, when the San Diego Jewish Community Foundation invited its donors to tour the beautiful and supremely functional facility. Founders Aviva Paley and Chuck Samuelson have gone on to new adventures, and have taken a more advisory role, as Lindsey Seeger steps into the role of Director of External Affairs.  [Eva Trieger]

Jewish-Interest License Plate: YAALAAA

As our license plate maven Melanie Rubin correctly points out,  “Yallah” is an Arabic expression meaning “Let’s Go!”  It is widely used in Israel by both Arabs and Jews.  This original spelling of the word, may suggest that the owner of the car is in a real hurry to get going!   Kudos to Melanie for spotting this license plate.
