Katz Concert Brings Bunny Chow Diners to Their Dancing Feet

Troubador Sharon Katz, who won fame in South Africa as the leader of the Peace Train that brought together a 500-member choir representing that country’s many ethnicities, provided a free concert Monday evening, June 26, at the Bunny Chow restaurant, whose owners were instrumental in bringing her to the San Diego/ Tijuana region where again she has been promoting peace through music. Workshop Highlights Holocaust Experiences and Research

Spielberg established the Shoah Foundation, which is headquarters in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, after making the impactful Holocaust movie Schindler’s List.  UC San Diego’s former head librarian Brian Schottlaender, consulting with History Prof. Deborah Hertz, decided during the 2006-2007 academic year to lease the database and to make it available for free to anyone on campus. B’Shalom: Biden’s Pesach Greetings, Passover and Jewish Political News

In an OpEd that was released over Cable News Service, U.S. President Joe Biden described the Passover seder as a “cautionary tale of the present and our future as a democracy.”  He said that the Haggadah tells of “how evil in every generation has tried to destroy” Jews and warned that antisemitism is “rising to record levels today.” [Donald H. Jewish connections to Halloween?

With the coming of Halloween, San Diego Jewish World introduces a new feature — a three-part video reporting series by my daughter, Sandi Masori, who has been after me for years to utilize originally produced video.  “Fine,” said I, “you do it!”  And so she did. In this series, which can be viewed above and will continue tomorrow, and Halloween night, Sandi interviews Rabbi Scott Meltzer of Ohr Shalom Synagogue in San Diego about some of the parallels between Halloween and Jewish mythology.  They discuss the stories of golems — human-like creatures created by great rabbis  — intended to protect their communities, and how golem stories were background to Mary Shelley’s famous tale about Frankenstein’s monster. Beth Jacob issues rules for outdoor davening

– Beth Jacob Congregation responded quickly to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s order on Monday, once again closing down indoor places of worship in response to the spiking coronavirus pandemic. The governor’s order also included fitness centers, offices for “non-critical sectors,” personal care services, malls and  hair salons and barbershops.
