The Jewish Eye: Debt Limit Deadline; Cardin Retiring; Genesis Award for Streisand
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told congressional leaders on Monday that unless the debt ceiling is raised, the United States could be left with insufficient funds to pay its debts as soon as June 1. In a letter she wrote: “After reviewing recent federal tax receipts, our best estimate is that we will be unable to satisfy all of the government’s obligations by early June, and potentially as early as June 1, if Congress does not raise or suspend the debt limit before that time.” President Joe Biden has invited congressional leaders to come to the White House on May 9 to see if an agreement can be reached.
