Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler and Democratic New York Rep. Ritchie Torres are planning to introduce legislation to send antisemitism monitors to college campuses and revoke federal funds from schools that don’t comply, the GOP lawmaker announced in a Friday press release. The College Oversight and Legal Updates Mandating Bias Investigations and Accountability Act, or the COLUMBIA Act, would empower the Department of Education to install a third-party monitor to any school that accepts federal funding, according to the press release.   1. Great! A much needed fix to a dangerous situation. These young people need to be taught history and reality.. they are living in the dark!

  2. Terrible idea. Antisemitism isn’t easily defined. Sometimes antizionism is perceived as antisemitism. And who’s to say the monitors can tell which is which and just when speech or actions cross the line (violence excluded)? If free speech means allowing pro-Nazi rallies in the streets, it also means allowing both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli rallies on campuses as long as they don’t impinge on the education or rights of dissenters.
